SOMA Workshops

Courage to Desire with Sheryl Fleisher Often, we face an inability to identify and embrace our desires because we believe wanting is sinful and/or we find ourselves stuck in the pain of unmet desires. In this interactive session you will learn how to name your desires as well as navigate the times when your desires conflict with your life's reality. Confronting our desires can present difficult dilemmas, yet these same dilemmas can also be a catalyst for greater intimacy with ourselves, God, and others.

Courage to Lead with John Wheeler Leadership goes beyond taking charge. Effective leaders are leaders of self first, a discipline often forgotten in our status-is-everything culture. God says start with character and integrity; success will take care of itself. Together, we will explore the courageous, counter-culture pursuits of self leadership and servant leadership - a radical refocus that just might change the world.

Courage to Speak with Curt Gruber The courage to tell someone about Christ often flows out of a deep connection to our own Christ-story. The more we reflect on and live in his love and transformational grace, the more we are ready and able to tell others about him. Do you need a nudge to step out and tell your story? Come find the courage to speak as we consider how Christ's love compels us!

Courage to Be Real with Elaine Hamilton Do you long for a deeper connection with God, yourself, and those around you? Do you feel isolated from the kind of relationships that offer a sense of being known? Often our false selves serve as barriers, keeping us removed from real love. Peeling away these false selves requires courage: the courage to see ourselves as God sees us, the courage to receive his love, the courage to trust others with our true selves. Scary, yet infinitely freeing.

Courage to Pray with Thomas Bush Does prayer even matter? Do our petitions turn the hand of God? Even if we believe prayer is something we should do, we often don't understand why or how to do it. In this experiential setting, we'll learn about and practice worship-based prayer - a type of prayer that is driven by a desire to meet with God, focus on His character, as well as intercede on behalf of others. Come to this workshop to courageously commune with God and see how God transforms you through it!

Courage to Move with Emily Greene and Mason Blue Our bodies are intimately connected to our mind, heart, spirit, and soul. Attending to our bodies can provide nourishment for the whole of us, helping us to be more present in our day. If you could use some calming space, join us for this contemplative stretching class -- a courageous act of meditation, movement, and self-care.
