One of the best things in life is receiving an invitation. In fact, you will probably receive many invitations this year, and those requests will likely be the highlights of your 2012. It might be as simple as a friend inviting you to a movie or as elaborate as a big event like a wedding. There are some invitations we want, but wonder if they will ever come. "Will you marry me?" "Would you consider this promotion with a significant increase in salary?"
Of course, there are some invitations that we do not want, like an invitation to risk, or an invitation to give something up. Opportunities to persevere, change, forgive, and sacrifice are often unwelcome, even if deep down we know they are the best things for us.
Invitations shape who we know, where we go, what we do and who we become. An invitation can communicate that we are cared for and loved--that we are wanted. And EVERYONE wants to be wanted.
We are beginning a brand new message series on this topic called, Répondez S'il Vous Plaît: The Invitations of God. R.S.V.P. is a symbol that we know well and even take for granted--to the point where we probably ignore it (especially in laid back southern California). But relationships cannot be glossed over. All of God's invitations lovingly await a response from us. Learning to listen and respond to God's invitations is the path to real freedom. Divine invitations bring healing and liberation from the destructive lies of the evil one. And the good news is God continues to send us more invitations--more evidence of being wanted and loved-than we can count--. How are you responding to God's invitations to you?
My goal for us in this series is to explore together God's invitations in our lives. We can learn ways to RSVP in the moment, break the power of lies, start new habits and cooperate with the Holy Spirit for transformation and renewal. God is inviting us to be more loved and loving.
