We had our first ever Men's Retreat this fall, and it was a huge success. We had 85 men get away for a night to bond over activities and competitions, great food with plenty of it, and a chance to hear and discuss what it means to be a Man of God! As we think through next steps, we have been brainstorming ways to allow men of different lifestages and journeys to learn from each other and spur one another on in their pursuit of becoming the men that God desires them to be. Younger guys will learn from the experience of their elders, and the older men will be inspired and energized by the younger guys. Our next event is coming up!

What is a transcendent cause? What would it look like if we gave our lives to something bigger than ourselves? How do we figure out how our lives fit into what God is doing throughout the world? We want to gather as men and learn from each other and encourage each other as we each try to figure out what God is inviting us to do with our lives. We will have a panel with some lively discussion as we figure out how to be Men Built for Others. And we will be eating some pizza! Please RSVP so we can plan accordingly.

In order to have a common language as we pursue Biblical masculinity, we have picked a theme for all events within the Men's ministry: Building Men for Others. This theme is inspired by the book, “Season of Life: A Football Star, a Boy, a Journey to Manhood” by Jeffrey Marx. It’s the story of Joe Erhmann, who was a professional football player turned minister. The book follows a high school football team through a challenging season and highlights some inspiring principles of manhood that transcend the arena of football. Regardless of your interest in sports, Marx uses a combination of stories, conversations, and "chapels" to share Ehrmann's inspirational view of what it means to be a Man Built for Others. The definition of masculinity and the code of conduct described in this book is the foundation for the journey we are on together.

Description: The Church has largely been silent on issues dealing with sexual integrity. We, at Flood, want to combat the secrecy and silence with a group that is only for guys and will deal specifically with sexual purity. If you are dealing with sexual sins and are stuck in a pattern of shame and guilt, then this group, led by a trained facilitator, is a great start! The Bible tells us to confess our sins to one another and bring our sins into the light, exposing the darkness to God 's Truth!
